Yemeni police arrest a woman who led the activists of anti-government protests. The arrest was done in the demonstrations that had been going on for two days in Yemen. Police used tear gas and wooden sticks to disperse hundreds of students, activists and politicians who protested in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. The demonstrators demanded the release of Abdel-Salam Tawakul Karman who was arrested on Sunday 23 January.
As reported by the Associated Press, the government declared these protests had crossed the line and violates the law. Mouthar Yemeni Interior Minister al-Masri claimed the people were not forbidden to issue opinions. However, further al-Masri added the demonstrations should be done in accordance with legal restrictions.

Tawakul Karman free governments are reluctant to resist arrest because that could trigger massive protests that occurred in these Sanaa. Inspired by events that occurred in Tunisia, Karman urged Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down from his post. This woman had previously been led two protests at the University of Sanaa.
The administration of President Saleh met resistance from the rebels in the north and south. She is also confused with the operation of Al Qaeda in its territory.
